About Cortes Island
Cortes is one of the Northern Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia, located about 100 miles (160km) north of Vancouver, BC. Cortes has a resident population of nearly a thousand people year-round, and nearly double that number in the summer. The island has a fantastic farmers market, 2 community halls, an organic co-op and two general stores, three excellent restaurants, and several marinas and parks. Cortes island offers an abundance of recreational activities, including a number of outdoor adventure facilities.
The Cortes Island Medical Clinic is open five days a week, and Dr. Kirstie MacDonald is on call during off-hours. Emergency facilities are available at Campbell River Regional Hospital. Cortes also has a thriving community of alternative healthcare and bodywork practitioners. The island has two postal outlets that are open four afternoons a week.
